Learn from the best in the industry at the TECH4AFRICA workshops. Our workshops are on the two days before the main conference, and are intense, full day sessions aimed giving knowledge, imparting experience, and helping with problems.

10th August - Workshops Day 1
07:30 Registration
09:00 - 16:30 A Usability Testing Masterclass

Gain expert knowledge from a global leader in usability

Usability tests are an excellent way of discovering problems with a product or service. Commissioning a dedicated usability lab will provide a high degree of scientific rigour but obviously comes at significant cost. Instead of a single academic evaluation, why not bring your testing in-house and run it alongside your design and development process?

09:00 - 16:30 Google University

A deep dive into Google Analytics and Adwords

Google Analytics is a powerful web analytics tool, AND it’s free, and Google Adwords is a great way to drive traffic to your site. However, you get the most out of them when you understand how they work, and how to customise for your needs.

11th August - Workshops Day 2
07:30 Registration
09:00 - 16:30 A Masterclass in Architecting applications and Advanced Javascript

Learn best practice for developing applications that enable you to work fast and agile, whilst being robust and secure; and learn advanced features of the JavaScript language to create complex applications.

One of the key ingredients to building world class applications is application architecture and a rich user experience that makes complex tasks seem easy to the user. From choosing a technology to build in, to selecting frameworks and deciding on what database and infrastructure to use, at each point there are many decisions to make which could affect speed of development, robustness, teamwork, and scaling.

This workshop is a must for any developer, and the opportunity to learn from two of the most respected people in the industry not one to be passed up!

Jonathan Snook (Yahoo!), John Resig (JQuery).
Dustin Diaz (Twitter) will also be there for answering questions and helping folks with exercises.

09:00 - 16:30 Successful digital projects

A strategic look at the digital project implementation lifecycle, for decision makers and programme managers.

Whether you want to or not, you are now project managing a group of (hopefully) willing people to create a product that you are attempting to get done in an (un)reasonable amount of time, within an (in)sane budget. The product should be fabulous, and everyone should be gleefully happy by the end too. Because that's all very simple to do, right? It may not seem easy right now, but you *can* get a project moving smoothly with some key project management fundamentals, a solid tracking method and some people skills.
