Digital designers and developers need to be UX capable

Irmi le Roux (Senior digital designer and UX analyst), Discovery

Twitter, LinkedIn

When you are a big corporate like Discovery, having dedicated UX labs and UX specialists are easier to budget for, but when we look at small-to-medium setups or even start-ups, this function is either outsourced or ignored more often than not. It is just too costly to employ a full-time employee for this function and UX specialists are like can't have just one. We need a new breed of designers. We need UX capable interface designers and developers.

Should I invest in a UX course as a qualified digital designer or developer, and why?

Speaker qualifications:

I started out as a lowly web developer, moving on to information architecture and interface design and development, doing extra certificates in PR and Digital Marketing, Social Media Marketing and eventually giving in and completing my UX certification...this was most possibly the best investment in my digital career. All this over the short span of 14 years. If you start now, you can be done by summer.
