What is the value of indigenous knowledge in technology design innovation in Africa? How do we approach innovation that material technologies we develop are not alien from the native culture? How does this enhance the potential to diffuse new tech in Africa, especially deep rural communities?
Merle O'Brien is recognised as one of Africa's leading design futurists,selected 1 of 25 global scholars to collaborate with MIT D-Lab scholars at the D'Kar 2015 Summit, she is founder of Creation iLab - Africa's transmedia and design innovation lab which serves as a testbed for ideas around her doctoral research. She is exploring how the fields of art and science are moving towards a common space and the radical innovation this holds for creative lifescience and transmedia technology to alter the axis of Africa's future in sustainable and positive ways.
